BRB – Downloading Peace

Posted on August 5, 2019 by chrystal

Yesterday I put a post together about how sad I am. Sad about the world, the climate, the deaths, racism and ignorance of elected officials. I’m still sad and will remain sad for a long time because it won’t change anytime soon. I also realized a few things after talking to my husband about how I feel defeated. I felt defeated because social media is terrible, especially for writers. It hides any links that takes you away from their website. I felt defeated because my writing used to attract a ton of readers and now I’m lucky if I get a handful. I felt defeated because I can scream into the void but nothing will get done. I can’t save the world by myself.

Last night as I couldn’t sleep, I deleted a ton of apps from my phone. No more Twitter or Facebook since they do the most harm. Maybe I’ll check something occasionally if I’m ever sitting on my desktop at home, but if the app is gone I won’t have the urge to mindlessly scroll and be sad. I’m going to use this to focus on some good for a while. Not to sleep on the issues we’re all facing, but for some much needed positivity. I can’t make a difference when my head is buried in the sand — and that is exactly how I’m feeling right now. We should all just take a minute to focus on our own mental health so we can collectively make this world a better place. Be present, build relationships, be a good role model for the generations to come and take care of ourselves.

So if you don’t see me around, know that I’m working on myself so I can make the world a little less of a dumpster fire.

For now, enjoy this cute picture of my kids from the past weekend.
