As I write this, I’m less than two months away from getting married.
Three years ago I hissed at the idea of getting married again. I was recovering from a broken marriage and working towards finalizing my divorce. I was not looking for love. I was not looking for anything at all. Months later I would end up in a relationship with the guy I’m about to marry.
I can pinpoint the moment I fell in love again. It wasn’t from some grand gesture. It was something small. Just sitting around, eating pizza and delicious little chocolate wafers in our pajamas because we slept in and it was lunch time. He ordered Lou’s. I didn’t tell him then, though I really thought about it. But about a month later it sort of came out over text. Talking about Star Wars tickets. We’re so romantic, I know. But it’s perfect. Life isn’t like the movies and that’s fine by me. I’ll take real life. I’ll take silliness. I’ll take planning out adventures. Pointing out dogs on walks. Someone that knows I want ice cream or macarons at any time of the day. To me, our relationship is the best.
I can’t believe I’m here again, but I’m so excited to be back. I’m so excited to marry him. He’s my person. My best friend. My soulmate. I’ve been counting down the days, reading my vows, spending too much time looking at Pinterest for photography ideas, telling maybe everyone in the world about how I’m getting married soon and going to Canada for a honeymoon, opening my closet just to peek at my dress. It’s unreal how excited I am. Finding your person is hard and sometimes it takes a lot of heartache to get there. I’ve had my fair share for sure. So once you have that person, never let them go.
I know every day won’t be magical. I’m a realist after all. But you know what, we still try, even on our worst days. We’ve been through hell and back this year alone. But we’re still standing. I don’t know about him, but I know for a fact that I’m still sane because of his support. He makes every day better because he loves me.
Yes, this is mushy and annoying, but I don’t care. I’m happy. I found the person I want to spend forever with, and I get to marry a babe. Let people share their happiness.
And honestly, the world could use a little more happiness and positivity.
