I’m not the kind of girl that cares to watch romantic comedies or sappy movies about love. I try to avoid the cliche #mancrushmonday or posting something cheesy about love all because my boyfriend helped with dishes. Yes, I post a few funny pictures when I get some cooperation. I think that’s more for his mom anyway. But I enjoy having a pretty private relationship. I hardly indulge anyone but my friend Tracey in any details.
However, I was browsing a group on Facebook today and saw a post about soulmates and if you think you’ve met yours. Is it your significant other? I didn’t even have to think about that one. I knew the answer. I’ve known that answer for a while. Our friends know as one once said, “you’re his lobster.”
Yes. Absolutely without a doubt. Yes.
I thought back to our first date. A man, who once told me I should rename my dog because Wrigley is just such a terrible name, took me to Wrigley Field because he knew it was my happy place. He had a White Sox shirt on under his pullover. I thought back to my cup of chai tea because the sleeve said “make something happen today” and I did. I allowed myself to start tearing down every wall I built around my heart. By the time I left that day, I was fully aware of how important this guy would be. He touched my face and told me that I’m beautiful. I was suddenly refreshed and able to smile again.
My heart was healing still, but I knew I was getting stronger every day and I knew that this was the person that would come in and turn my world upside down. I fell hard. I hinted at it, half joking in a text one day and he came back with mutual feelings. So waiting to hear it in person was worthwhile.
It’s been quite exciting. There is not a day that goes by that I am not thankful for finding this kind of love. When he looks at me and smiles, I still melt a little. My heart will always beat at such a rapid pace when I see him walking towards me. I am filled with such joy when I see him treat my children with so much love and kindness, and when I see them pacing at the window waiting to pounce and fight over who gets his attention first. I do stop and realize how lucky I am to have someone that helps me put the dishes in the dishwasher. Or someone that makes sure I get enough sleep. I’m lucky to have someone who listens.
I told him on our first date about my Beetlejuice doll I had as a kid, and how heartbroken I was when someone told me it was ugly. I told him that I never got a bike license plate as a kid because I have an abnormally spelled name. I tell him these silly little things about my life and he finds a way to make it a reality again, be it a customized license plate or a Beetlejuice doll from 1989.
He makes every single day feel special. He is the one that calms my storms. He lets me be myself again. He takes me to creepy museums that make him squeamish because he knows I will enjoy myself. He even took me to two Cubs games and the parade. I’ll remind you, he’s a White Sox fan. He is the most handsome man I’ve ever met. I love him endlessly and I can only hope I can spend the rest of my days next to him. /mushy thoughts
Now back to complaining and raising awareness about important issues.
