Think like a proton, always positive.

“I’m going to draw a picture of me, Dagger, you and Addy. We could be having a snow ball fight or maybe playing hockey.”-My sweet 6 year old

This is in his new sketch book he insisted on buying, all because he wanted to draw with *Dagger.

*The nickname given to my sweet boyfriend by my 3 year old.

Never in my life would I have imagined I’d end up with two kids and divorced by 29. I know I settled with their dad because I was pregnant and felt like I didn’t have a choice. But I figured I’d find something, anything, to keep some kind of spark going. I didn’t. And looking back, I don’t even know what originally drew me in.

But none of that matters.

I’m happy with my life right now. I’m in my own space, decorated the way I want it. I’m making meals that sound good to me and are a lot healthier. I’m raising my kids the way I want to. Yeah, I worry about a lot of things. I dropped an income, a partner to help raise these kids, someone to take out the trash. But I gained strength. I gained confidence. And in all of that smoke, I gained someone incredible to bring into my life. He knew exactly what he was walking into and he’s stayed by my side through it all.

I fell fast. I fell hard. I questioned it because my marriage had ended at the start of last year. Was it too soon? Am I crazy? Can I bring someone around my kids? What will the future bring? Will my kids even like this guy? I was madly in love with this guy and didn’t think I could love him more, but the kids had to eventually meet him and approve. My world revolves around them.

Turns out they loved him. So many happy stories revolve around him. The kids constantly ask when they can see him again. They always want to FaceTime and tell him about their day. They want him to be involved in their day to day life. They notice I’m happy and it makes them happy. And here I am, not realizing how much more you can fall for someone until you see them with your kids.

He doesn’t have to talk to them. He doesn’t have to play with them. He doesn’t have to do anything. But he does and it’s incredible. They learn so much from him. They like to be silly with him because he’s silly right back. He teaches them to have respect for me. He even got the little one to eat all her dinner one night. It’s amazing.

I’m confident for the future. I can’t wait to see how he is when he’s around us more. I can’t wait to see them grow up and be in such a loving environment. These kids are so lucky to have him around because he is truly a very wonderful guy. I couldn’t have picked a better partner to navigate my life with. I can only hope he sticks around for the long haul.

With all of our puppies!
