Chronic pain is no fun.
Today I finally decided after 33 straight days with a headache and occasional migraine, I should stay home. I couldn’t see straight this morning. I still wonder how I got the kids to school and daycare today. I wonder how I got to the doctor. The pain was unbearable.
I suffer from chronic pain and chronic migraines. At any day my pain level is usually a 5. I go to work like that, baseball games, parties. Everywhere. My head and body usually hurt so much by the time I get to my boyfriend’s. I don’t know how I can live in so much pain all the time. I’m almost 29 and I’ve been dealing with this since I was seven years old. The chronic pain didn’t come around until high school but the migraines have hospitalized me multiple times since seven. The doctor thought I was having a stroke not once but three times. Nothing has worked in those 22 years. The chronic pain came about and I started hearing terms like “fibromyalgia.” Then carpal tunnel, degenerative disc disease, cervical arterial disease, and that I need to have surgery. My hips aren’t aligned causing one leg to be longer, causing pressure. It’s a mess.
This isn’t a reach for sympathy or any kind of excuse. I function every single day and take care of two little ones even on my bad days. And I usually do it with a smile and minimal bitching.
I’m a fighter and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. Now if I could just get a new spine…
